Office replacement installation disks, setup files and license keys

Microsoft offers various ways to obtain new installation media or license keys for free. In some cases, a proof of purchase or a shipment fee will be required.

Installation media for Office 365 for Home subscriptions

If you are an Office 365 for Home subscriber you can download the installer by logging on to the Office.com website and go to the My Account section.

By clicking on the Install button in the top left area, you’ll be taken to your installation overview where you can download the installer.

Note: You can also deactivate old installations here in case a license is installed on a computer which no longer boots.

If you want a different language, bitness or version of Office, then click on the “Language and install options link” and on the next page click on “Additional install options”. You can now also choose between the 64-bit versions and whether you want the current versions, the Office 2013 version or the Office Insider version.

As an Office 365 subscriber, you can also continue to use the previous version for up to a year after the release of the current version.

Installation media for Office 365 for Business subscriptions

If you are an Office 365 for Business subscriber and have a subscription that also entitles you to use Office, you can download the installer for Office from the Office 365 Portal Homepage.

A quick way to locate this page is by clicking on the Office 365 link at the top when you are logged into Outlook on the Web (OWA).

To choose between Office 2010, Office 2013 or Office 2016, click on the “Change” link next to the language choice to go to the Office 365 Download Software page.

Clicking on “Office 365”  in Outlook of the Web will take you to a page to download Office when it is included in your subscription.

Installation media for Office 2013

To obtain replacement installation media for Office 2013, a license key will suffice to gain access to a website where you can simply download Office 2013 again for free. For a fee, you can also order a new DVD installation disk.

Installation media for Office 2010

To obtain replacement installation media for Office 2010, a license key will suffice to gain access to a website where you can simply download Office 2010 again for free. For a fee, you can also order a new DVD installation disk.

Installation media for Office 2007

Similar to Office 2010 and Office 2013, you can re-download Office 2007 via a special website. There are various options available depending on where you bought Office 2007 and which license type you have. For some methods, a license key will suffice;

• Download or order Office 2007
  A license key is required to gain access to the download file.
• Microsoft Office Download Center
  No license key is needed for the download but is of course for installation.
• Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 (Ultimate Steal)
  The website gives you access to your original order which allows you to re-download the software and review your license key. An order number with password is required or the email address and last 5 digits of your credit card which you used to place your original order.

Installation media for Office 2003 and earlier

Officially (question 35), Microsoft only offers a replacement disk set for the current version of a software product and one earlier version. However, if you are using Office 2003 and need to get a replacement for your installation media, you might still contact Microsoft Support and ask if they still have a disk set available. For any previous version, I wouldn’t get my hopes up and resort to other methods.

Other methods to get replacement installation media

If you know somebody else owning the same version of Office who still has the CD/DVD, you can ask for a copy of it. For some versions it is required to also have the same suite and the same type of license (OEM or Retail).

If you are not able to download the (relatively) large installation file for Office 2007, Office 2010 or Office 2013, you can also ask somebody else to download it for you and burn it to a CD/DVD or copy it to an external hard disk or USB-drive for you.

Be careful with buying or downloading the installation media from any other source on-line. These versions could be pirated and could do serious harm to your computer when used. Also, in several countries even downloading from an illegal source is considered an illegal act as well, even when you intend to use it with your own valid license.

Be careful where you place your installation file, CD or DVD and license keys.

Replacement Product Key

Product keys are supplied in your original disk set or Product Key Card (Medialess License Kit). In case that you bought it on-line, your product key is usually emailed to you or made available to you when you login to the on-line store where you bought the license.

No license key is needed when you are using Office 365 as your available licenses will be checked automatically when you log on to Office with your Microsoft Account.

In the case of Office 2010, you can review your license via the Account Management Console.

If you really cannot find your license key, you can contact Microsoft for a replacement key. A proof of purchase will be needed to obtain a new key. Obtaining a replacement key for Office 2003 or previous could be troublesome.

Note: In some cases, if your computer shipped with an OEM licensed version of Office, a license sticker might be placed on your computer casing. Do not confuse this license sticker with the license sticker of Windows as that key will work for Windows only.

Magic Jelly Bean and Belarc Advisor (key finder)

If you still have Office installed on your system but do not know your Product Key, you can use the free utility Magic Jelly Bean or Belarc Advisor to obtain the Product Key for you. Microsoft also offers a script to read out the last part of the Product Key so you can compare it with your documentation.
